Tegan and Sara do Bad Religion’s “Suffer” on an upcoming tribute. Nicely done. Of course.
I did some quick video demos of some new songs (and an old cover) this weekend. Check out, Yeah, It’s Beautiful Here Too, I Don’t Want to Drive to Long Beach Tonight, and Becky, Let’s Go Bowling.
I played the open mic at the Gypsy Den last week. I tried out two new songs: Becky, Let’s Go Bowling and You Have the Worst Taste in Men. I think I pulled them off pretty well so I warmed them both up to play at my gig at Alta this week.
John Carillo booked me to play his Tuesday night songwriters’ night at Alta Coffee this week. I went on first at 8pm. I didn’t make any recording of it which is probably for the best. It went like this, I think:
I Don’t Make Passes, Becky Let’s Go Bowling, Angie, I’m Sorry, All or Nothin.
I had prepared more songs since the last time I played there, I didn’t have enough in my set list. My first song was a little rough since it’s just weird to start making noise inches from people who a minute earlier were enjoying their conversations. But after that, I think I did pretty well.
UPDATE: My friend Lindsay just sent me the pic above and the video of All or Nothin below. Thanks, Lindsay!
I love Liz Phair. I’m going to see her for the first time in LA in a few weeks. I like this interview with her from American Songwriter. I love this quote from Phair:
This whole, “You have to win American Idol before you can play music. You have to prove that you’re really, really good.” I don’t believe that. I believe that music is inside of everybody and I want to express it as often as I possibly can.
I do kinda wonder about that “often as [she] possibly can” part since years go by in between hearing new stuff from her. But I’m glad she’s putting out new music and playing some shows now.
