Last week at Gypsy Den

I played the Gypsy Den’s open mic night last Thursday. John Carillo runs it and does a fantastic job. But it’s so popular that you have to arrive two hours ahead of time to sign up. I got caught in traffic and was about 30 minutes late for the sign-up. That put my spot near the end. So I got comfy in the corner reading Woodie Guthrie’s autobiography and eating dinner. I had the sandwich/salad combo with the turkey breast and Greek salad. It was good. Luckily the performers for the evening went pretty quickly and I played around 10pm, I believe.

I played Selina and I Want To Stay.

Afterwards, I talked to Memphis Bobby for a while.

Requests for Tuesday night?

Tomorrow night I’m playing the songwriters’ night at Alta Coffee in Newport Beach. (I play promptly at 8pm.) If I have enough time and don’t feel rude skipping out of Alta, I’ll head to La Cave and play a short set there as well.

Any requests for songs I should play?
